September marks the 18th anniversary of National Food Safety Education Month, and the National Restaurant Association announces a month-long campaign that focuses on the importance of food safety education and training for restaurant and foodservice operators, while continuing to raise awareness of the industry’s commitment to food safety.

DeKalb County Board of Health encourages the food service industry, as well as residents, to participate in the weekly activities that are designed to promote and increase awareness of safe food handling and preparation.

This year’s theme “Be Safe, Don’t Cross-Contaminate,” focuses on best practices for avoiding the spread of pathogens from one food or surface to another. Free weekly training activities and posters that communicate concepts clearly and quickly to employees and food handlers are available for download at www.foodsafetymonth.com.
