Dr. Clyde Watkins Jr. has just joined the board of the DeKalb County Board of Health.

Dr. Watkins is a clinical assistant professor of medicine at Emory University’s School of Medicine.  He is also founder of the Capstone Medical Group.

Dr. Watkins is a graduate of Morehouse College and earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College.  He completed his internal medicine training at Emory and is board certified in internal medicine.  Dr. Watkins also serves on the board of Open Hand, which provides nutrition education and home-delivered meals to individuals with chronic conditions.  In addition, Dr. Watkins belongs to the DeKalb County chapter of 100 Black Men of America.

“We are pleased to have Dr. Watkins join our team of health professionals, advocates and public officials.  And we are excited to add his passion, expertise and commitment to serving people in DeKalb County,” stated Board Chair Arlene Parker Goldson.

“I am delighted to have Dr. Watkins as a board member.  His dedication to the residents of DeKalb County, as well as his extensive knowledge of chronic diseases and health disparities, make him a welcome addition to an already wonderful team,” said District Health Director S. Elizabeth Ford, M.D., M.B.A.

The DeKalb County Board of Health’s board establishes broad agency directions and priorities; adopts policies, rules, regulations and annual budgets; and reviews the agency’s performance.  Its meetings are open to the public.
