Tobacco Use Prevention and Control

The DeKalb County Board of Health receives the Communities Putting Prevention to Work Cooperative Agreement grant for $3.2M for tobacco use prevention and control.

 

 

1992

First county in the state of Georgia to restrict Tobacco use.

 

2000-2001

The DeKalb County Board of Health received the tobacco MSA dollars from the state health department (mow Department of Community Health) to initiate tobacco use prevention and control efforts of DeKalb.

 

2002

Clean Indoor Air Ordinance passed in unincorporated DeKalb County

Championed by, then, Commissioner Burnell Ellis and the PATCH (Prevention Alliance for Tobacco Control and Health) coalition

All work sites and restaurants in unincorporated DeKalb became smoke free.

 

2004

Clean Indoor Air Ordinance passed in the City of Decatur (1st of 9 incorporated cities)

Championed by the PATCH coalition and the residents of the City of Decatur

 

2008-2009

Tobacco-free schools policies passed in the City Schools of Decatur and DeKalb County School System

No Tobacco use on any school property by students, staff, or visitors 24-hours a day/7-days a week

 

2010

The DeKalb County Board of Health receives the Communities Putting Prevention to Work Cooperative Agreement grant for $3.2M for tobacco use prevention and control.
