Welcome to the SORT Site, a project of the Center for Public Health Preparedness at the DeKalb County Board of Health. This site is intended to help local public health departments and schools of public health develop and implement training programs that provide hands-on experience for the future public health workforce. The Center for Public Health Preparedness has collaborated with the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in developing such a training program, called the Student Outreach and Response Team (SORT). The SORT Site represents one approach to implementing training programs such as SORT, and can be used as a guide to help students, faculty and health department personnel develop their own unique programs.

How to use this website

The tools on the SORT Site were developed during the program's first three years of existence. The toolkit is divided into four sections: Management, Recruitment and Selection, Activities and Evaluation. All of the documents and tools on this website can be downloaded and adapted to meet your program's needs. Please note that text files are in RTF (Rich Text Format) and spreadsheets are in Excel format. All document formats are noted next to the file name.

The guidance document provides background information on the SORT program and a summary of the tools available on the SORT Site. In order to navigate the website more easily, we recommend that you download and print this document as a reference guide to the toolkit.

As we enter into the fourth year of the SORT program, we plan to continue sharing our ideas and developments with the public health community through the SORT Site. Please check back regularly!
