Injuries are the leading cause of death in the United States for people between the ages of one and 34 and the leading cause of lost potential years of life. More than 90,000 people die of unintentional injuries each year. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury deaths and the second leading cause of overall hospital admissions.

Safe Communities of DeKalb is dedicated to preventing motor vehicle related injuries in DeKalb County.

More than 30,000 motor vehicle crashes occur in DeKalb County each year, resulting in more than 12,000 injuries and an average of 70 to 105 deaths. In DeKalb County, motor vehicle crashes are the second leading cause of injury deaths (after homicide), and the second leading cause of injury-related hospital admissions (after falls).
