District Health Director
The District Health Director serves as the chief executive officer of the DeKalb County Board of Health. Sandra Elizabeth Ford, M.D., M.B.A; has served as director since 2005. Her duties include:

  • Managing the Board of Health’s staff and resources to achieve its mission, goals and objectives.
  • Directing the agency’s programs and budgets.
  • Preparing studies on the community’s health status, needs and resources.
  • Reporting to the Board of Health members and proposing rules, regulations and policies for their approval.
  • Representing the interests of the Board of Health to the Georgia Department of Human Resources and the interests of the Department to the Board.
  • Ensuring that the agency complies with federal, state and county rules and regulations.

Division of Marketing and Business Development
The division provides public relations and marketing support to all Board of Health programs, centers and units. Marketing and Business Development staff are responsible for all media contacts, including researching questions, setting up interviews and media bookings, as well as television production. The staff generates and distributes media advisories, press releases and public service announcements.

Additional marketing functions are writing, designing and taking photographs for newsletters, brochures, flyers and displays. The staff creates forms, stationery, programs, banners, slides, transparencies and business cards. Special events are often coordinated by the staff. Health fairs, open houses and receptions are some examples.

The Marketing and Business Development staff also maintains the agency’s web site, www.dekalbhealth.net. The goal of www.dekalbhealth.net is to become a dynamic, comprehensive and interactive way to integrate public health into the lives of DeKalb County’s population.

The volunteer services coordinator works with staff to incorporate community members in Board of Health activities. This involves identifying opportunities and recruiting, placing, monitoring and thanking volunteers. The volunteer services office also places interns with the agency, ranging from high school to graduate students.
