Head injuries are the leading cause of death in bicycle-related crashes. Nationally, less than 25 percent of children wear bike helmets. Helmet use is lowest among children ages 11 through 14.
Wearing a helmet is critical not only when bike riding, but also when skateboarding, rollerblading, skating and riding a scooter.
