Opening a Restaurant?

If you are planning to open a restaurant, food service establishment or catering business in DeKalb County, follow these steps to obtain your permit:

STEP 1
Contact the DeKalb County Board of Health about your interest in opening a restaurant in DeKalb

STEP 2
Complete the Application contained in the Food Protection information package, which also includes:
Food Code
Complete the Food Service application forms found under the "forms" link for opening a restaurant.

STEP 3
Turn in completed application (including a scale drawing or blueprint of the facility and a proposed menu) and pay the plan review fee

STEP 4
The food protection staff will complete the plan review process and contact the owner

STEP 5
Take the completed plan review to the DeKalb County Economic Development Department to apply for a building permit. If you are located in an incorporated city take the completed review to the local building authority.

STEP 6
Pay the annual permitting fee to the Board of Health

STEP 7
Obtain Fire Marshal approval
Call 404.294.2348 to schedule an appointment.

STEP 8
Schedule a permitting inspection with a member of the food protection staff

STEP 9
Pick up permit or request to have it mailed

STEP 10
Obtain a business license
