SMALL
GRANT PROGRAMS
What is the Status of Health Small Grants program?
The
Status of Health program awards small grants to community groups,
for health promotion around the issues of cardiovascular disease
prevention and decreasing obesity. The grants must address the
health behaviors of physical activity and nutrition.
Criteria
for grants include forming partnerships among community groups,
proposing a creative and effective prevention approach and demonstrating
an efficient use of funds.
Volunteers
are involved in all aspects of the program including evaluating
applications, making award decisions, providing technical assistance
to grantees and monitoring projects.
Since
1993, approximately $1,200,000 has been invested in 260 health
promotion programs in DeKalb.
Applicants
are non-profit community groups such as civic associations, PTA's,
schools, faith organizations, undergraduate and graduate students,
neighborhood associations, etc.
