DECATUR, Ga. – Men in DeKalb County will now have one less barrier to obtaining preventative care, as the DeKalb County Board of Health is set to open its Men’s Health and Wellness Clinic on Wednesday, February 21.

With funding from the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority, and in partnership with DeKalb Medical Center’s Physicians Care Clinic, Inc., the clinic will support non-emergency, chronic disease management, and primary care medical services, including pharmaceuticals, for low-income, uninsured or underinsured residents of DeKalb County.

The clinic, located at the Board of Health’s T.O. Vinson Health Center in Decatur will serve patients on Wednesday and Thursday evenings by appointment and is part of a larger men’s health initiative providing disease-specific prevention education and community health outreach activities targeting men living in DeKalb County.

“DeKalb County males experience significantly less than optimal health outcomes and have lower life expectancies than their female counterparts, said DeKalb County District Health Director S. Elizabeth Ford, M.D., M.B.A. With the help of our partners, we are pleased to provide a resource for men to receive free preventative services and view this accomplishment as a stepping stone to addressing men’s health in DeKalb County.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., accounting for almost 1 in every 4 deaths, affecting significantly more men than women. Eliminating or decreasing risk factors can lower the chances of developing a chronic disease such as heart disease.
