DECATUR, Ga. – Attention DeKalb County men: Attention DeKalb County men. Before you heat up the grill on June 9, the DeKalb County Board of Health wants you to get fired up for your health.
The DeKalb County Board of Health will host its second annual Strong4Family Men’s Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, June 9, from noon until 4:00 p.m. The location is the Georgia Piedmont Technical College’s conference center at 495 N. Indian Creek Drive in Clarkston.
The event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is preferred.
This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Rondrick Williamson, a board-certified podiatrist and a fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association.
“Dr. Ron” has quite a presence in the worlds of medicine and entertainment. He has appeared as a regular on CBS’s Emmy Award-winning talk show “The Doctors” and on Bravo TV’s “Married to Medicine” and “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” He also has been featured in both Ebony magazine and on the TEGNA-produced, live, daily talk show “Sister Circle,” which airs locally on The ATL, WATL-TV, and on TV One .
The men’s health event designed to encourage men to connect to resources that will help them to lead healthier lives. Free onsite screenings will be available for dental, diabetes, HIV, high blood pressure, vision and more. Also, the fair will offer resources on employment, exercise, healthy eating and fatherhood. Free child safety seats will be provided to a limited number of families. However, you must call 404-508-7847 to pre-register and requirements may apply.
While men will be the fair’s primary focus, there will be something for everyone, including a kids’ zone, healthy food demonstrations and door prizes.
Each attendee will receive a $5 gift certificate to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at the Decatur Farmers Market, courtesy of event co-sponsor Community Farmers Market Association.

According to the DeKalb County Board of Health’s 2015 Status of Health Report, the county’s males experience worse health outcomes and have lower life expectancies than females. The Board of Health is addressing these disparities by focusing on access to health care, heightening awareness of preventable health problems, encouraging early detection and treatment of disease, and promoting overall health.
