What the Board of Health does in DeKalb
The DeKalb County Board of Health runs neighborhood health centers that offer immunizations, family planning, tuberculosis and STD services, travel medicine, and refugee health screenings. The same teams support clinical programs for children and teens, dental health education, and chronic disease prevention so residents can address risks early instead of waiting for a crisis.
Environmental health specialists inspect restaurants, pools, hotels, and septic systems, respond to neighborhood complaints, and publish reminders on radon, lead, rodents, and mosquito control. Epidemiology staff track reportable conditions, share county-level statistics, and coordinate with partners during outbreaks, while emergency preparedness planners maintain response plans and recruit volunteers through the Medical Reserve Corps.
Need help reading posted charts or knowing when to request custom tables? Use the Office of Epidemiology and Statistics guide on reading county health data.
Residents can order certified birth and death certificates through Vital Records, sign up for WIC during the hours listed for each clinic, and check restaurant inspection results through the Georgia inspection portal linked from this homepage.
